This simple chocolate sauce can make a boxed cake mix and Cool Whip instantly decadent and delicious. Grandma Stella served this often when she made boxed cakes. Somehow, hers always tasted better.
Chocolate Sauce
1 cup granulated sugar
2 Tbsp flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 Tbsp cocoa
1 cup water
2 Tbsp butter
1 tsp vanilla
Combine sugar, flour, salt, cocoa, then add water. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly and bring to a full, rolling boil. Remove from heat. Stir in butter and vanilla. Cool slightly before serving over cake.
To serve: pour on top of individual cake servings until an excessive lake has formed around the cake. Top generously with whipped cream and shaved chocolate. Sauce can be stored in refrigerator for a few days.
This recipe is my Mom's. God bless her:)
